The Third Eye Foundation (TEF) is dedicated to uplifting rural Nepal through sustainable development in education, tourism, and women’s empowerment.

Rural Development in Nepal's cover image

Nepal, a country of breathtaking landscapes and diverse cultures, is home to numerous rural villages like Baseri in Dhading district, Bagmati Zone. Despite their proximity to urban hubs like Kathmandu, many rural areas remain underdeveloped, lacking basic facilities such as accessible roads, proper education systems, and modern infrastructure. The villages of Nepal, however, offer immense potential for tourism, agriculture, and community-driven development if given the right support and opportunities.

Challenges in Rural Nepal

Rural villages across Nepal often lack basic amenities such as roads, clean water, and access to quality education. The underdeveloped educational facilities have resulted in limited awareness and poor job opportunities. Many young men from these regions migrate to Gulf countries in search of employment, leaving behind communities primarily consisting of women, children, and the elderly. The lifestyle in these villages remains primarily agriculture-based, even in areas with significant tourism potential, such as the Ganesh Himal and Manaslu trekking routes.

Third Eye Foundation’s Role

The Third Eye Foundation (TEF) is actively working to uplift Nepal’s rural communities by promoting sustainable development in tourism, education, and women’s empowerment. The foundation aims to unlock the tourism potential of regions like Dhading through the development of Sustainable Treks and Homestay Tours, which can create local job opportunities and reduce the outflow of youths seeking employment abroad.

Improving Education

Education is at the core of TEF’s mission. Many schools in Nepal’s rural villages lack qualified teachers, which significantly affects the quality of education. TEF is actively seeking sponsors to support the hiring of qualified teachers for these schools. With just $250 per month, a sponsor can fund a teacher for an academic year, directly impacting the lives of hundreds of students. Quality education not only benefits children but also empowers communities by improving awareness and creating future opportunities.

Empowering Women

Women form a major part of the population in rural Nepal, and their empowerment can bring significant positive change. TEF organizes training programs for women in skills such as sewing, pickle-making with local organic products, and other entrepreneurial activities. These initiatives provide women with the resources and knowledge to become self-reliant and improve their economic status. TEF also plans to introduce more workshops to promote women’s empowerment and skill development across Nepal.

Sustainable Development Through Tourism

Nepal’s rural areas, with their diverse topography and delightful climate, hold untapped opportunities for tourism. By promoting small-scale tourism industries, TEF hopes to boost local economies and provide visitors with unique, serene travel experiences. Developing basic infrastructure and offering volunteering opportunities can significantly enhance these areas' appeal, benefiting both the local population and the tourism sector.

A Collective Vision

The Third Eye Foundation believes in the power of collective effort to transform rural Nepal. By focusing on education, women’s empowerment, and sustainable tourism, the foundation seeks to provide a meaningful life for the people of Nepal's villages and a hopeful future for their children. Together, we can create thriving communities and preserve the natural beauty of Nepal for generations to come.
