A Village of Nepal: Banseri
Estimated read time: 3 minute
Nepal's rural village - Banseri, rich in natural beauty and diverse communities, face challenges like underdevelopment, lack of education, and limited opportunities. Initiatives promoting education, tourism, and awareness are gradually improving living standards.

Nepal is home to numerous rural villages, each embodying unique cultural, ethnic, and natural diversity. Many of these villages are located in scenic settings, surrounded by stunning mountain ranges like the Himalayas. Communities in these villages consist of various ethnic groups such as Chhetri, Brahmin, Tamang, Gurung, and others. Agriculture remains the primary livelihood, but many young people migrate abroad, particularly to Gulf countries, in search of employment, leaving behind children, mothers, and elders in the villages.

Despite Nepal's proximity to urban centers like Kathmandu, most villages lack basic facilities such as education, transportation, and healthcare. This lack of development leads students to seek higher education abroad in countries like Canada and the USA. Poor access to education is a major challenge, resulting in limited awareness about health, hygiene, and opportunities for economic growth. The cycle of underdevelopment continues as people are unable to create sustainable livelihoods due to the lack of proper education.

Organizations like the Third Eye Foundation are working to improve the living standards of rural villagers. Initiatives include promoting tourism and enhancing education by offering scholarships to economically disadvantaged but diligent students. For example, scholarships of $25 per year encourage children to attend school and motivate parents to prioritize education. Such efforts are gradually raising awareness about the importance of education and improving the quality of life in Nepal’s rural villages.
